The rhetoric of President Obama's State of the Union was so familiar that I just turned it off. He proposed no new policy, offered no new argument, announced no new strategy. What's the point?
Washington's next year will mostly be wrangling over who is most sincerely interested in co-operation. At some point, interest rates will rise, and to levels that really affect the economy, and I suppose that's when Congress will start adjusting our obviously unsustainable fiscal structure. I don't see what else will get them to move.
